My name is Scott Sheets and I am the owner and operator of SMS Custom Rods.  I began building rods in 2002 by building a St.Croix Spinning Rod with a custom handle for my girlfriend.  Apparently she liked the rod because we are now married and have two beautiful twin girls (ok so it's probably not because of a fishing rod).  That first rod started an addiction which led me to build rods for myself, friends and family as well as tear apart and rebuild every factory rod I owned.  I have used that time to hone my skills and learn what makes a truly great custom bass rod.  In addition to rodbuilding I am the tournament director for my local bass club and the Internet Director for the Illinois Bass Federation.  I am also a member of McCoy Fishing Lines ASM Staff.  In 2006 I started my lifelong dream of becoming a Joliet Firefighter.  My unique schedule may take me away from my shop or email access at times, all efforts will be made to be accessible to my customers.
